JAKARTA: To mark their first anniversary, former MTV VJ Nirina Zubir and pop band Cokelat's guitarist Ernest have launched a new family business: A recording company.
The company, called Sound Entertainment, is set to show the couple's commitment to developing the local music scene, as well as supporting new talent in the industry.
"For our first anniversary, I was challenged to give a present to Nirina and our newborn daughter," Ernest said Friday during the company's launch in Jakarta. "So, I decided an indie music label would make the best gift," he added.
With Nirina and his brother Erwin (also from Cokelat) getting involved in the label, the business is expected to be a long-lasting bonding factor for the family.
"It's not just for today; it's for our future," said Ernest.
Nirina said the company had already embraced a few new bands like Parcel, Signals and Zaffa. However, she added, bands weren't the company's focus.
"We are accepting both bands and solo singers," said Nirina. "We won't reject any *music* genre. We would love to accommodate all genres and artists as long as it they are promising artists," she added. - JP
