Pedasi - Recommended Honeymoon Destination

Want to explore an undiscovered coastal paradise? Then, let me recommend Pedasi to you. I am sure that most of you must not have heard about this beautiful place, but it is truly a fascinating place.

Pedasi lies in Panama and is a district in its Los Santos Province. This is one of the five districts in town and is also the most beautiful one. This rural district in Panama owns some of the most breathtaking locales in the world. We had chosen this place as our honeymoon destination, after a friend recommended it to us. As both I and my wife love beaches, Pedasi looked like the dream destination we always wanted for us.

Pedasi has not been a front-runner in coastal tourism destination till now, but as it has so much to offer, one wonders why it's not as popular as Bahamas, Cancun or Hawaii? As it is only a four hours drive from Panama City, reaching Pedasi was no issue for us. In fact, we really enjoyed our breezy drive that gave us time to talk and enjoy ourselves.

We were so surprised after reaching the town. This is a bustling town with huge shopping arenas and Miami-style beach condos. It was so fascinating to see that this supposedly rural town is turning into a bustling city. But with only a population of about 4,000 people, we did not find it to be that crowded. Our resort also welcomed us very nicely and our suit was just perfect.

Pedasi used to be under a huge forest cover before Spanish decided to establish a colony here. This district was established in the year 1840. At that time, Panama was a part of Columbia. To establish a settlement here, massive deforestation was done in this area that left many cliffs and mountains completely bare. How do I know about all this? Well, our tour guide gave us a long briefing about the place before letting us go and have fun on the beach. (Very informative! We would have liked it if we were not on our Honeymoon.)

The beaches of this place were simply gorgeous. It seemed like for miles and miles, there were only sun-kissed beaches and inviting sea to welcome us. We spend 4 full days just relaxing on the beach. I just couldn't believe the peace and quiet we were experiencing as for the last one month; all we talked, heard, ate and drank was our wedding. So, the relaxing environment of the beach was a hugely welcomed change.

By the fifth day, we had maxed out our relaxing limit and decided that we should do something other than lying like a beached whale on the beach. We called our tour guide (who was almost sure that we were lost in the jungle!) and asked him about some cool activities to do in Pedasi.

He recommended a tour to Isla Iguana Wildlife Refuge. Situated only a boat ride away, this is a huge wildlife refuge. It lies near a huge coral reef and has two very gorgeous (you guessed it!) beaches. But we wanted to see something more than just the coming waves. So, we took a tour inside the park. Our guide told us that there are about 62 species of birds in this park and it is the nesting site for Frigatebird in Panama.

The island gets its name from the Black Iguana lizard. We even spotted a few and my newly wedded wife was completely terrified of them. I must also admit that the creature is simply disgusting. But apparently, it plays a huge role in the islands eco-system. So, we are supposed to like it?

We also went for snorkeling in a huge marine area near the island. This redeemed our trip after the "Iguana fiasco" and made the trip very memorable. We saw many beautiful coral reefs, eels, sting rays and other sea animals. We were also promised at least on Humpback Whale, but that promise was not fulfilled as the "star" refused to show up.

We had kept the next entire day for Sport Fishing. I really like fishing and my wife likes to roam around on a boat. So the arrangement was perfect. We hired a boat and a guide to go on the deep sea fishing with us. We were simply mesmerized by the amount of fish visible in the water. Apparent, the continental shelf drops near the Pedasi coast which makes it a heaven for fishermen like me. We caught two tuna fish and one huge Mahi Mahi. The trip was just amazing.

Pedasi is a laid-back and friendly town. Despite all of its showy arenas and condos, the heart of this city is still very pure and rural. People still wear their traditional costumes and respect their cultural values a lot. The architecture of this city has a lot of Caribbean and Spanish influence on it which makes it very unique. Most streets, homes and gardens are very beautiful and make you feel like you are on vacation.

In short, Pedasi made our honeymoon special and memorable. It gave us so much that we don't know how to pay it back. All we can do is to recommend that you take your next vacation to this gorgeous town.
