When heartburn strikes, is your normal reaction to simply take an antacid tablet? Or if you suffer from more acute acid reflux are you taking some form of over-the-counter or prescribed heartburn medication such as H2 Blockers or Proton Pump Inhibitors? This is the normal course of action for millions of heartburn sufferers such as yourself. But are you actually giving yourself the best chance of getting control of your problem?
The medical profession tells us that heartburn cannot be cured and these forms of heartburn medication are the best way to control the problem. But the curious thing is that what you are actually doing is simply managing the problem by "masking" the symptoms of your condition - you are not dealing with the root causes. So what is the alternative?
Well firstly, let's consider how these different forms of medication actually work. Basically there are four of them
''? Antacids - such as Tums and Rolaids act by neutralising the acid in the stomach and produce quick relief.
''? Alginates - such as Gaviscon create a layer of foam on top of the stomach contents preventing acid reflux occurring.
''? H2 Blockers - such as Zantac work by controlling the amount of acid produced by the stomach which is why H2 blockers are known as "acid reducers."
''? PPI's - such as Nexium prevent the production of stomach acids by inhibiting the action of the cells that produce it.
While they all produce relief from the pain, the one thing have in common is that their action is temporary. It is only the symptoms of your condition that are dealt with, so stop taking the medication and back comes the pain and distress.
It must also be mentioned that another serious drawback with these medications is that the chemicals that they contain often produce adverse, potentially dangerous side effects. This is a common concern that many people have with drug based medicines.
There is a whole host of totally natural heartburn medication readily available that will give equally effective relief from your problem without producing those adverse side effects.
But before you even consider taking any form of medication you should consider how the way you live is directly affecting your condition. Diet and lifestyle are the major factors in causing the acid reflux that produces heartburn. So doesn't it make perfect sense that making some strategic changes to what you eat and how you live, will significantly control this acid reflux? Of course it does.
Then consider what combining these changes to diet and lifestyle with natural heartburn medication, specifically targeting the causes (not symptoms) of your problem would achieve. You would certainly have much greater control over your problem with the possibility of eliminating it completely, a definite possibility.
